![]() ![]() It’s a dated game, so not many people play this game compared to the Warhammer series. As a result of this, lots of matches often have a limit on lights and skirmishers. Anyone that tries to engage with you will die before they themselves can get enough range to start firing back. ![]() If you bring enough of them so that they form the bulk of your army, not even cavalry will have a chance to dispatch them due to the sheer amount of fire power and accuracy they have. They can’t form square, and don’t do well in melee…. Light Infantry and Skirmishers on their own are weak and generally need to be supported by line infantry. ![]() Absolutely ridiculous and is unsurprisingly banned in most multiplayer matches. It is generally inaccurate, but if you’re good at camping or bring a lot, you can easily rack up enough kills to make elite units route. Rocket Artilleryīasically unlimited ammunition of rocket artillery that can shoot all the way across the map at anything it wants. This is rather unfortunate because Napoleon was well known for his effective use of cannons, and howitzers weren’t all that common during the time period. Furthermore, howitzers and Unicorns can shoot over obstacles, so there is almost no way to protect yourself from them unless you hide behind a mountain or some oddly big structure, or just stay out of their gigantic range.īecause of this, almost every army will always have some form of howitzers, and no cannons. Whereas regular field artillery, you’re lucky to get 15 kills in a battle (unless you shoot at cavalry, which you will obviously get more). Howitzers and Russian Unicorn artillery are extremely powerful as they can have the same range as a 8-12lber field artillery cannon, and can rack up to hundreds of kills. This kind of expands on the unlimited ammo section, but is a bit more concise on some factors that make this game extremely unbalanced especially in the multiplayer setting. In summary, there are a lot of bugs and kinks that need to be worked out. Other minor bugs include flags not displaying which makes it hard to micromanage, as well as artillery not firing or “dry firing”. Throughout my personal gameplays, there have been numerous times where troops decide to get to a point by taking the long way around, or are unable to stand somewhere due to a small log obstructing the battle map. The closest feature that resembles this is the fire and advance mode, but this is not the same as troops will advance towards their target, and the slow animations generally do not make this effective in practicality. Unfortunately this does not exist in Napoleon Total War for some reason, yet it exists in Empire total war which is a predecessor of Napoleon Total War. This allows more firepower and more efficient reloading time between ranks. One of the key defining concepts of musket warfare expecially in the Napoleonic Era was how the first line of an infantry block would kneel after they fired so the second rank behind them can fire over their heads. Not sure if this was done out of laziness or if there was a time crunch, but this makes artillery severely unbalanced which leads to players organizing rules such as allowing armies to only bring 2 units or no artillery at all. There is no such thing as ammunition, which is shocking given that all regular line and light troops do have ammunition. or players who love to spawn camp, it is extremely infuriating that a strong army is able to field artillery that can shoot at your troops and squander their numbers for the entire duration of the game. A sequel release which tackles these problems from the current game (some of which are additions) would easily enhance and set-up the next game to be a staple in the Napoleonic Wars genre. Current Issues With Napoleon Total Warĭue to Napoleon Total War being extremely dated, there are many problems that arise which would not fly in the modern gaming world. Here are some of the big problems Napoleon Total War currently faces, and some main points to indicate why we need an official third installment of the game. While Napoleon Total War may be a fantastic classic RTS, it’s definitely a dated technology that accumulated its fair share of problems which just don’t make the game enjoyable as the years go by. ![]()
